What's the "R" value?
The "R" value indicates the degree of slip resistance the floorings have (relating it to the angle at which the operator loses grip) and ranks surfaces according to their friction. The values range from R 9 which has a small slip resistance, up to R 13, which has the highest slip resistance. R 10 indicates a normal slip resistance level.

How does the test work?
The German standard DIN 51130 sets 5 classes* to measure the slip resistance of floorings.
How is the test carried out?
The surface to be tested is placed on an adjustable ramp coated with oil. An operator walks backwards and forwards while the angle of the surface is gradually increased until slip occurs. The angle at which the operator loses grip on the surface is used to establish the degree of slip resistance.
